It’s May! While April certainly brought it’s showers, it also brought out the flowers, but May is bring with it steady warm weather and a lot of outdoor events to enjoy. Here are some of our favorite events we are looking forward to attending:

First Friday: To kick start our month, we are heading downtown on May 5th for First Friday to enjoy the local galleries, studios, museums, and music. Most are open later than normal and offer complimentary showings of their current exhibits. We are particularly excited to stop by CAM Raleigh to see Margaret Bowland’s exhibit, “Painting the Roses Red,” and The Mahler for Elizabeth Bradfords exhibit, “Entanglements” which is showing in congruence with our own exhibit of hers, “Time Out of Time.” For more information on First Friday, visit their website here.

Out! Raleigh 2018: The 8th annual Out! Raleigh Festival will be held downtown on Saturday, May 6th from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. This inclusive and family- friendly event supports the LGBT Center of Raleigh and includes live entertainment, food trucks and vendors such as our friends at Brewery Bhavana and La Farm Bakery, as well as artists, a kidszone and beer garden. More information can be found here.

Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo: Who doesn’t love a good food truck rodeo? And Raleigh does them so well. Come rain or shine, this ½ mile rodeo spreads over 11 city blocks of downtown Raleigh and includes over 50 of your favorites. For a full lineup and more details, visit their website here.

Sleeping Beauty: The North Carolina Ballet begins their rendition of Sleeping Beauty on May 17th. One of the great Russian ballets, along with Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, this performance featuring live music from The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle. For tickets and show times, visit their website here.

Beer and Bacon Festival: if you did not get enough beer during North Carolina Beer Month, the annual Beer and Bacon festival is taking place on Saturday, May 19th from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Kokabooth Amphitheater. There will be over 75 craft beers, 15 restaurants, 10 bacons from across the USA and live music. Tickets available here.

Artsplosure: Artsplosure brings its 37th anniversary of The Raleigh Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, May 19th and 20th. Filled with more than 170 visual arts and crafts exhibitors, this art-infused festival also includes aerialists, live music, and interactive educational activities for children. For more information, visit their website here.

Umstead Uncorked Wine Tasting: Join us in the Fireplace Lounge on Wednesday, May 23rd for another Umstead Uncorked Wine Tasting featuring New Zealand. New Zealand’s vineyards lay in the southernmost part of the world, and thus are the first to see sunlight each day. Its Sauvignon Blanc took the world by storm in the 1980’s, with new varietals continuing to push the envelope today. Explore this isolated region with Sommelier, Robert Basantsov, as we taste our way through this exciting country. Event begins at 6:00 pm and is held in the Fireplace Lounge. Tickets are $40 all-inclusive and can be purchased at 919-447-4050. For more Umstead events, visit our event calendar here.
