Exploring the wines of Piedmont

For the longest time I had an aversion to Italian wines.  They came off as too astringent, too tart, and difficult to understand.  One day, a peer of mine was insistent that I try the wines of Vietti based in Castligione Falleto and a leading producer of stellar Nebbiolo from the Barolo region along with a major producer of Barbera and Arneis.  As I tasted the Nebbiolo from Langhe called Perbacco and then moved onto their Barolo Castiglione bottling, I started to understand the stunning beauty of this region through these wines.  There was power and elegance on the palate all wrapped up in a beautiful package.

For those that have been avoiding Italian wines because they are difficult to understand, as well as those looking to expand their wine education, I hope you will join me as I share with you a turning point in my appreciation for wine as I delve into the Piemonte showcasing four stellar examples of the wines from this region.  Hope to see some of you on Thursday for Umstead Uncorked.  For reservations call 919-447-4000.
