KEYS TO THE CITY: Unlock the Month

Labor Day is upon us and that means summer is wrapping up! As a North Carolina native, we all know the weather here has its ups and downs, but now that fall is nearly here, we can look forward to crisp mornings, and bearable outdoor temperatures. Here is a look you have to look forward to this month!

Umstead Uncorked September 17: This installment of our uncorked series focus’s on Australia’s next chapter. Australia’s next generation is focused on changing the perception of how wine could be made in Australia. In this session, we look to explore the multi-faceted wine industry in Australia. Tickets are $40 per person and include wine and small bites

Gallery Artist Reception September 23: Help us welcome as we welcome Charlotte based artist Orr Ambrose. Influenced by the theories of physics and biology, the exhibition, titled "Imagining the Micro-Universe", Ms. Ambrose uses circles, variations of circles, line and pattern to represent the substances of existence. Enjoy complimentary wine and hors d’ oeuvres as you mingle with the artist.

Chilean Wine Dinner September 24: explore the vast valleys of Chile in a decadent dining experience. In a region that spans more than 1200 miles, wines are defined by their proximity to the Pacific Ocean coast and the Andes Mountains. Taste the wide wine varieties Chile has to offer alongside an exquisite selected menu from Executive Chef, Steven Greene. Reception followed by 5 course dinner, tickets are $145 plus tax and gratuity

African American Cultural Festival September 5-6: Staying in town for Labor Day? Head to downtown Raleigh for the African American Cultural Festival. Explore art, music and dance performances, and interactive family activities. And better yet, the event is free!

Hopscotch September 10-12: AdHoc calls it “The premier experimental and underground festival in America”, Raleigh’s Hopscotch Music Festival features more than 140 bands in 3 days, featuring music in every genre imaginable, from rock to electronic, folk to metal, and hi-hop to experimental, it has something for everyone. Day shows are free while night shows require a wrist band tickets, beginning at $35.

74th annual NC Gourd Arts and Crafts Festival September 12-13: prepare for the fall season at the Gourd Arts and Crafts Festival. Displays of historic and exotic gourds as well as gourds from around the world will be available for viewing, with dried gourds available for purchase as well as workshops for doing it yourself.

Bring the Kids!

Umstead State Park: Our neighboring state park is well within walking distance, and a great place to venture yourself or take the kids. This month they feature events on the various animals that live in park, edible plants, and a history of amphibians! Use our complimentary bikes or hike through the park before or after, but seeing is a must!

Cary Scavenger Hunt September 12: the 6th annual scavenger hunt is a great time to get out on the town and explore the area. The all-day event tests your knowledge of Cary and your ability to strategize. Take your clue book and be your own Sherlock Holmes.

Sparkcon 2015 September 17-20: An interdisciplinary creative art and design festival, Sparkcon brings together art, music, film, fashion, geek, circus and more. Enjoy artists creating live murals, lectures, plays, and a circus parade, it’s a festival for the creative at heart.
