Spa Information
As a guest of the Umstead Hotel & Spa, we want to ensure you are totally comfortable and all your needs and personal details are met in a friendly and professional way. Our associates will ensure that your visit to The Umstead Spa is a relaxing and beneficial experience during your stay in Cary, North Carolina.
Age
The Umstead Spa is an adult enclave; therefore, we kindly ask that you be 18 years of age or older to enjoy our spa services and facilities. However, children under the age of 18, when accompanied by an adult, may receive a manicure or pedicure.
Arrival
If you are receiving a facial, body treatment or massage we ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Allow enough time to familiarize yourself with all the facilities we offer; change into your robe and slippers; warm your muscles, open your pores and relax in the steam, sauna and/or whirlpool; cool down with a shower and rest quietly in one of the lounges at the Umstead Spa in order to receive the full benefits of your treatment.
For nail care appointments, please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time. As a courtesy to our guests, all appointments begin with a brief consultation with one of our massage therapists and conclude at the scheduled time.
Cancellations/"No Shows"
If you need to cancel or re-schedule an appointment at our Umstead Spa, please provide us with at least 24 hours notice in order to avoid being charged in full for your scheduled spa appointment. "No-shows" will receive full charge to your room or credit card for the reserved services. We request 48 hours notice for cancellation of any Spa package or appointments for parties of three or more.
Electronic Devices
Please respect the tranquility of the Umstead Spa by not bringing your cell phone, PDA and other electronic devices. We are however, "iPod friendly" and invite you to bring yours to your treatment room if you want to listen to your own music.
Facility Usage & Fees
The use of the Spa facilities is complimentary to hotel guests. Non-hotel guests may enjoy all the Spa facilities when receiving a Spa or Nail Care service valued at $85.00 or more. This includes usage of the locker room, steam, sauna, whirlpool, lounges and meditation courtyard. Please note, swimsuits are optional.
Fitness
Our Fitness Studio is open 24 hours a day, every day and contains a complete range of Cybex cardiovascular equipment (each with its own flat screen TV/CD/DVD Entertainment system), individual strength training equipment, as well as a stretching area. Personal trainers are available at the Umstead Spa by appointment. This area is open to Hotel Guests and Spa Elite Members only.
For Your Comfort
This is your Umstead Spa experience, and we encourage you to communicate with your service provider regarding room temperature, pressure and technique to ensure your overall comfort. We also invite you to discuss any of your preferences or special needs with our Spa staff. This will help us select the service provider who will best meet your needs and make your Spa experience at the Umstead exceptional. We highly discourage shaving immediately prior to treatments at the Umstead Spa.
For Your Safety
Please be sure to inform your spa service provider if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, heart ailments or any condition that may prohibit your taking heat, massage or skin care therapies. We highly discourage excessive alcohol consumption prior to, during or immediately following Spa treatments. Please avoid immediate sun exposure following skin care therapy.
Gift Cards
Gift cards may be purchased for any treatment, package or dollar amount. Cards must be presented at the time of the service to be redeemed. The Spa is not responsible for lost or stolen cards and The Spa is not able to hold gift cards.

Group Experiences
Contact our Sales Manager for Meeting Enhancers, Welcome/Thank-You Gifts and Spa Services for Groups designed especially for your meeting or conference.
Personal Possessions
Please leave jewelry and valuables in your room safe or in a hotel safety deposit box. If you forget to do so, you may secure your valuables in the Umstead Spa safety deposit boxes. Please inquire at Spa Reception. The Spa is not responsible for broken or misplaced items.
Prices
All prices are subject to change, but we will always inform you of any changes when you make your reservation at the Umstead Spa.
Privacy
You will be given a robe and slippers to wear in the Umstead Spa and a private locker for your possessions. Our licensed therapists and estheticians are trained in procedures to assure you are properly covered during the treatment and your privacy will always be respected. If you feel more comfortable, you may wear your undergarments or request disposable ones.
Pool
The Umstead Hotel and Spa seasonal swimming pool is located lakeside. The Swimming Pool is exclusively for Hotel Guests and Spa Elite Members.
Reservations
Advance reservations for services are highly recommended. Before your arrival, you may call 919-447-4170 or, if you are already a guest in the hotel, please press the Spa button on your room phone. We welcome "spur of the moment" requests and will do our best to accommodate you based on availability.
In order to preserve an overall soothing spa experience, we are unable to accommodate food requests on Saturdays.
Return Policy
If you are not satisfied with a product you have purchased at the Umstead Spa, it must be returned within 7 days of the purchase, with proof of purchase, in order to receive a credit or to exchange it for a more suitable product. Returns without a receipt will receive store credit only.
The Spa is open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Service Charge
For your convenience, a 20% service charge will be added to all services and packages. If you feel you have received exceptional service, please let us know, as additional gratuities may be left at your discretion.
Smoking
We kindly ask that you refrain from smoking while in the Spa.
