The Umstead Hotel and Spa is pleased to welcome Raleigh artist Jason Craighead to The Umstead Art Gallery.

A recognized leader in the North Carolina art scene, Craighead’s original pieces are showcased in The Umstead Art Gallery through May 31st. Craighead’s process is one of expressive, emotionally charged mark-making that is both raw and honest. With a background in mixed media, Craighead’s exploration of space and line is comparative to the expressionistic, gestural painters of the mid-20th century.

A Florida native, Craighead attended Gulf Coast Community College and Florida State University where he studied art. Now based in downtown Raleigh, Craighead is a member of the City of Raleigh Arts Commission and chairman of its Art, Education and Collections Committee. Craighead has been featured in various regional publications including Triangle Business Journal, The Herald Sun, The Independent Weekly and The News & Observer.
